Confused About Financial Aid? Don’t Be! We’re Here for You!

In 2017 The Salon Professional Academy(TSPA), San Antonio reached a milestone that we have been working for years to accomplish.

We received our accreditation.

After years of hard work on the part of all of our students and our dedicated teachers, we were able to meet all of the requirements and standards that are required by The National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences, or NACCAS, receiving our accreditation status.

NACCAS is one of the largest accrediting bodies for beauty schools in the U.S. With an application period that spans several years and includes standards that need to be accomplished and held through it all. It is quite an accomplishment – and one we are proud of.

But what does that mean for current and future students?

The answer is: ‘a whole lot,’ but one things stands out more than any other.

We are able to offer our students financial aid

graduating students

This is something that has been out of reach to us for many years and something that we are beyond ecstatic to be able to offer our students.

We ask each new student to sit down with our financial aid advisors before they complete the enrollment process so that they can understand the complexities of this amazing benefit. As you prepare for your meeting, and your tour, here are just a few of the basics to help you understand financial aid, and the amazing benefit it can be to you as a student.

    • What is Federal Financial Aid?

Federal financial aid is money that is funded and backed by the federal government to assist students toward gaining a higher education.

    • How do I Apply for Federal Aid?

Applying for federal aid is done through the Free Application for Federal Aid or FAFSA®. The FAFSA® application will help determine how much funds you can be awarded if you qualify. To understand your qualifications and award contact the financial aid administrator at TSPA San Antonio.

The FAFSA® is used to apply for all forms of federal aid.

      FAFSA Forms

What Types of Federal Aid are Available?

There are several different types of aid that you can apply to through the FAFSA®. While each has different thresholds and requirements to qualify we are listing the basics of a few of them below.

    1. Unsubsidized LoansUnsubsidized loans are distributed based on information received through the FAFSA®. With an unsubsidized loan you are not required to pay on these loans while in school and they will be accruing interest. It’s one of the many reasons we suggest you pay on these loans while in school so as to avoid compound interest.
If you have questions about this type of loans make an appointment to sit down with our financial aid administrator.
    2. Subsidized LoansTo qualify for these loans you must complete a FAFSA® form online. Different than the unsubsidized loans, the interest on subsidized loans is paid for by the federal government while you are in school, or while the loan is in deferment. The principle of these loans is always the responsibility of the student, and while interest is paid while you are in school, it begins accruing once you have left, or utilized your six month deferment period. Schedule a time to speak to our financial aid administrator for more detailed information. While you do not have the same risk of compound interest with these loans, the loan is still subject to interest once you have left school and begun paying on them. For this reason it is suggested that you make payments on these loans while in school if possible.
    3. Pell GrantThis grant is a subsidy of the federal government, that does not need to be paid back and will not accrue interest. Set aside for students who qualify based on need, the Pell Grant award is determined by financial need and is limited based on past usage or degree program. You could qualify for The Pell Grant, speak with the financial aid administrator at TSPA San Antonio to begin the application process and see if you can get free money to put toward your beauty school education.
